Water Street Coffee Joint
610 W. Willard St.
Over the years, as we learned more about what goes into a truly great cup, we realized that there simply were no coffee roasters out there producing the fresh, high quality, truly distinctive brews we sought. In 2000, Water Street Coffee Joint opened as a micro-roaster.
Coffee roasting is both a science and an art, a fascinating combination of process, precision, mystery and magic. We start out with the best green (raw) coffee beans, and we carefully craft each coffee by hand, monitoring temperatures and making subtle adjustments at each stage of the roasting process in order to bring out the best flavor in each bean. Small batch sizes give us more precise control over the flavor of the beans. Frequent taste-testing (hey, somebody’s gotta do it) ensures a greater consistency in the quality of our roasts. And because we know freshly roasted coffee is richer and more aromatic, with a greater complexity and a fuller range of flavors, we encourage our customers to order only as much as they will use in a week, and we ship each order within forty-eight hours of roasting.
Our building at 610 Willard St. has been a part of the industrial community in this area for over one hundred years. Originally built sometime between 1885 and 1895 as a machine shop, the building housed the Verdon Cigar Factory from 1900-1908 and then, until the mid-1970’s, the Bowers Lighter Company. We at Water Street Coffee Joint are proud to carry on in the tradition of the many artisans who have lived, worked, and enriched the life of this community over the years.
