Stacey Korycki Showing in the Salon
I love to photograph and I love the darkroom process of creating a print.
When I photograph, I usually focus on a very small part of the whole. I am attracted to texture and pattern, the often-unnoticed elements of the ordinary.
The two series in this exhibit are the result of trips to Florida and Italy this year. The expression series emerged from the sculptural faces that seemed to repeatedly appear in my viewfinder. The ageless faces remarkably capture and deliver human emotion.
I photographed the landscape series with a Holga camera. This plastic camera leaves a lot to chance. For me, it was a big step backward. I was forced to look at the bigger picture because of the limitations of the camera. The resulting images exude a timeless, dreamlike quality that I find intriguing.
