June Belitz, Quilt Hangings

Oct 2006 to Nov 2006, Oakwood Neighborhood

About the Artist
June Belitz was born in the Cleveland area and continued to live there through her college years. Art has always been a major interest and persistent thread in her life. While June and her husband were raising their children, art projects were always in progress. For years, ceramics were her medium of choice, then she began quilting. After a dozen bed quilts, countless gifts and baby quilts, her interest in art quilts was born.

June is now a professional quilt artist living in Kalamazoo. For the past twenty years she has been producing award winning quilts and wall hangings. Her main aim while designing a piece is to keep the flavor of an old fashioned quilt while changing its form into one of new excitement. Her designs are all original.

June’s work has won her countless awards at major quilt shows in Houston, Paducah, and Indianapolis. She has had a one women show in Kalamazoo, Michigan and been juried into the Kalamazoo Institute of Art area art show numerous times.

She was commissioned to create a large (11’x13’) wall hanging for the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Similarly, she was also honored with a commission to create two quilts for the hospital chapel. After these exhilarating experiences, she has had one idea after another, begging to be completed.
